Good afternoon!
We are ready to begin work for the Kentucky United Nations Assembly for this year (Grades 6-12). This will be the third year our school has participated in this program. The program deals with current world issues, and students debate international proposals related to things such as world hunger, terrorism, vaccination programs, and the environment.
There are several roles for students to participate in that include authoring a proposal for consideration and debate, creating displays related to our country, and serving as delegates. There is preparation for the event, but the experience itself is where the most work is completed. This program helps students gain confidence in public speaking (if they choose to debate), learn more about events happening across the globe, and experience cultures of countries outside their own.
This year, Somerset Christian will be representing Mexico. Even if your child is unable to participate, we would appreciate any ideas or help in creating a display the represents our country.
The registration forms are in the front office, and they are due by Wednesday, February 11th. NO LATE FORMS CAN BE ACCEPTED. The price for the conference is $190, also do on February 11th. We have some funding available for financial assistance, and please let me know if you are interested.
If you would like to help sponsor another student, either partially or the entire cost, that would help tremendously.
We will have a meeting Wednesday after school until 4:00 for all those who plan to attend KUNA this year. During this meeting, we will discuss proposal ideas for Mexico.
Thanks so much for your time, and have a great weekend!
In Christ,
Chris McGuire
